ARCHIVE NOTES
This jacket links Honda's American open-wheel programme with its home circuit in Japan. Twin Ring Motegi — the Honda-built speedway and road course in Tochigi — hosted a CART Champ Car World Series round from 1998, run on its oval and titled the Budweiser 500, giving Japanese fans a rare home date for the US-based series that Honda powered so successfully. The back patch set reads like a grid of the era's front-running CART teams: Target Chip Ganassi Racing (whose Honda-powered cars dominated the late-1990s championships), Team KOOL Green, Tasman Motorsports Group and Walker Racing. HPD — Honda Performance Development — is Honda's North American racing arm behind those engine programmes. Genuine Twin Ring Motegi CART event apparel is a distinctive crossover between JDM and American open-wheel collecting.
