ASIMO - Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility - was unveiled by Honda in 2000 as the public face of a humanoid robotics programme the company had run quietly since the 1980s, and became one of the most recognisable symbols of Japanese engineering ambition: a walking, running, stair-climbing robot that Honda toured worldwide as proof that a car maker could think beyond the car. This premium display model was produced for the COME COME 21! Honda Fair, a Honda dealer promotion, and belongs to the category of Japanese dealer goods that were never sold at retail and left Japan only through the domestic secondhand market. Honda retired ASIMO from public demonstration in 2018, which has made its period dealer material increasingly collected.
